The Family Visitor’s Guide to NYC

We love going on vacation, especially if it means spending time with our loved ones. Whether you visit another city or another continent, the company of your family can make any holiday worth it. If you’re visiting NYC, there is plenty for all of you to see!

When you look at most the sightseeing guides for NYC, they usually focus on solo or adult travelers. This article, however, is exclusively focused on family visits and kid-friendly places in the city. Here’s a special NYC family visitors’ guide

If you’re visiting NYC with family for the first time, they would love to have a look at one of the children-oriented sightseeing places. These can include natural history museums, observatories and planetariums, the largest urban zoo, and the famed Statue of Lady Liberty. However, if you are willing to take it one step further and if the kids in your company are older than 10, you can also check out the less obvious spots. For instance, the Museum of Modern Art often comes up with kid-friendly programs, even though it may seem a bit highbrow at first.

Try touching no more than 3 places a day to give your children plenty of time to enjoy and absorb their experiences. They get burnt out quickly and are likely to be bored with too much stimulus in a single day. Keep changing up the kinds of things you do in a day to keep them interested.

  • Sometimes, kids may be offered a cheaper ticket for a certain attraction, so make sure you ask at the ticket counter!
  • Some places may not be appropriate for kids younger than a certain age. Make sure you read a brief about an attraction before visiting.

Places to check out:

Food-wise, New York is the metropolitan of your dreams! While most restaurants have a kids menu, you should take this opportunity to introduce your kids to different types of cuisines from around the world. Nearly everything you can think of is represented in this multicultural city. Whether a classic New York-style pizza or a dim sum meal in one of New York’s Chinatowns, your child is bound to leave the place a little more cultured.

Don’t forget to check out outdoor restaurants and the famous NYC street food. While you’re at it, we must recommend the gourmet food halls that offer everything from ramen and tacos to barbecue and chicken sandwiches! Even the pickiest eaters will leave satisfied.
